Sheer Texas brutality. That's one simple way to describe Austin, Texas' Scattered Remains. Kind of a lovechild from a Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and Skinless three-way. At the time of recording "Led to the Slaughter" the band consisted of Ryan Sylvie on gutturals (who has taken over guitar duties since 2013), TJ Rodruguez on guitar, Eric Houser on bass and stickman Rene Martinez beating and blasting on drums. Scattered does a great job mixing tempos throughout each song. One minute kicking you in the teeth with a slow but powerful tempo with deep chugs and pinch harmonics to an all-out body raping of all it's senses blasting away each cell within your person. Unfortunately between the release of this album (2011) and the date of this review (2020), they haven't released anything else since "Led to the Slaughter". They are still active however with a couple of lineup changes so that gives me high hopes that the boys can get some new brutality created in the near future. That's my hope anyway.
Guest appearances include Ryan Stallings (at that time vocalist for Disfigured, then in 2013 joined Scattered on vocals then replaced in 2016) for guest vocals on "Rape Her to Death" and Patrick Moore (vocalist at the time for Whore of Bethlehem) doing guest vocals on "Butchering the Bastard Children of Christ". "Led to the Slaughter" was recorded and mixed between February and March of 2011 by Kris (Vesperian Sorrow) at Amplitude Studios in Austin, Texas and mastered by John Scrip from Massive Mastering. The album was also produced by "Triple B" Brian Ferrell at Ossuary Industries. Cover art by the queen of sick death metal artwork Kahori Takeda.
All in all a sick release by these Texas sickos and I do hope that they will grace us with more Texas brutality in the near future.
