The Pizzle is up to his one man grotesqueries again! This time in the form of an eleven song onslaught of brutality entitled "Revel in Lunacy" released on Sevared Records in May of 2020. For those unfamiliar with Putrid Pile......wtf? Jokes, just jokes. Anyway Putrid Pile is a one man brutal death metal band from Racine, Wisconsin and has been around since the "Bleed for Me" demo in 2001. It's brainchild is Shaun LaCanne who does the vocals, guitars, bass and finally drum programming. "Revel in Lunacy" is LaCanne's sixth official full length release and the fourth outing with Barrett Amiss II's Sevared Records.
LaCanne's vocals once again are a range of super bowel deep gutturals and maniacal screams. You'll also get some "breeee breeee"s in there once in a while as well for good measure. In my personal opinion, the music on "Revel in Lunacy" is LaCanne's finest to date. Just my opinion. An excellent blend of brutal death, oldschool death, groove elements, even a hint of thrash elements...on steroids. He's also consistently gotten better and better with his drum programming over the years to the point where if you didn't know it was a machine you would think there was someone behind the kit beating the everloving hell out of it. Even me, being familiar with Shaun and Putrid Pile since around 2002 forget it's programming. The production of "Revel in Lunacy" is also great. Vocals, guitars and drum parts are all very ledgible and mixed very well. I do kind of wish the bass tracks were a little higher in the mix but that's just my bassist bias I think.
"Revel in Lunacy" was recorded, mixed and mastered by Scott Creekmore at Mercenary Digital Studios in Zion, Illinois in May and August of 2019. Artwork was done by Pedro Sena - Lordigan. Layout and album title was done by Logotomy Designs. Shaun's photo on the sleeve was taken by Gutalax Martin. When you pull the sleeve out to look at the lyrics, on the last page under his thanks list, Shaun also includes a heartfelt and crucial statement to everyone. Maybe a slight disclaimer about the lyrical contents but more importantly kind of a plea to people to basically think twice before committing to something rash. Music is an artform and an release and basically not a tool to commit heinous acts. I'm paraphrasing greatly here so WHEN you get this album, please take the time to read it for yourself. His words on this are far better than my cramdown into two sentences and I'm not about to type the whole thing out word for word. For one I'd be here a while but for two it would just be wrong of me to do I believe. The hell you waiting for? Stop reading this garbage and go pick you up some Pizzle Pie and revel in it's lunacy!
