Putrid, rank, disgusting, filthy, raw and just flat out sick, Czech Republic's Nidorous breaks onto the scene with their debut promo entitled "Putrescent Serenity Over Fragments of Heinous Copronecropsy". Yeah say that, well, one time fast. Even though Nidorous is a new band, the trio that makes up Nidorous are no strangers to the scene whatsoever. Mallika Sundaramurthy, from brutal technical death metal band Abnormality and lowers the gutturals even more with this band, joins forces with her husband Serg Rhino and Milan Moškon, guitar shredder and skin basher respectively from Czech slam brutal death metal band Epicardiectomy, to form this filthy slab of brutality. Serge (who is also the vocalist/former guitarist and bassist in Russian brutal death metal band Fleshbomb) also handles bass duties on this promo.
The promo starts off with the title track as an instrumental intro that, to me anyway, has a heavy oldschool Obituary feel. One minute and thirty eight seconds of slow methodical sludge. Especially the guitar tone, chord choices and chord progressions. Once that intro is over though, all that goes out the window with reckless abandon as after that, the remaining two songs are a pure onslaught of controlled mayhem. Serge going apeshit on the fretboard, Milan blasting the piss out of the snare and Mallika, as I mentioned earlier, unleashes a whole new side of her vocal talents. She goes full blown monster guttural and Predator style gurgles throughout these two final songs. My only real complaint (if you even want to call it that) is it's to damn short. Two minutes for the second track and a minute and fifty three seconds for the third. I get it though. I really do. It's a promo. It's meant to get the word and music out to some ears and from there, word of mouth. I've been there so I know how it is which is why it's hard for me to call it a "complaint" because it sounds much harsher than it's intent. Basically, I want more and word has it that they are working on a full length and this promo was definitely good for them because they just recently landed on New Standard Elite. So this guy is really looking forward to hearing future Nidorous. One more cool thing about the disc itself is that the top of the actual disc looks and feels like a vinyl album including grooves to separate the three songs. Really cool touch. Unfortunately for people that didn't get the physical disc, I'm afraid you will be out of luck as it was hand number limited to only 100 copies and are now sold out. You can still get the digital promo and a logo tshirt from their Bandcamp site though so go check them out there and on their facebook page, both linked below, to keep up to date on all things Nidorous. Even though they weren't signed at the time of the release, I will still link NSE below also.
