Impaled Offering is a four piece death metal band out of Albuquerque, New Mexico that lunges at the listener with brutal intentions. The band, at the time of release in 2018, consists of Andrew Robertson spewing gutturals, Ken Padilla on guitars, Luis Dominguez on bass and guitar and Ben Segura on drums. "The Agony of Rebirth" is the band's second full length album was released in October of 2018 by Ossuary Industries and Sevared Records.
Impaled Offering offers a great mix of ferocious power, frantic speed, great technical ability without it being the focus, catchy as hell riffs and bowel deep guttural vocals. Some of the catchiest hooks on this album, in my opinion, lie within the tracks "Crowbar Disfigurement", "Metempsychosis", "Unearth" and title track "The Agony of Rebirth". By this I mean when the song is chaotic and fast paced controled mayhem and then out of nowhere you get hooked by powerfull slower to midpaced chord/note progressions and drumwork to where the listener can't help but want to violently do hairwhips before either going back into controlled chaos mode or in another direction tempo/musicwise. Halfway through the album we come to track five "Slumbers of Reality" which is a really interesting and well done instrumental of a minute and twenty seconds in length. "Slumbers..." also features Cameron Porras, vocalist/guitarist for California based progressive technical death metal band Inanimate Existence. The track starts off with a little bass chord strumming leading right into some beautiful guitar solo work with drums guiding the tempo, back to some nice bass scalework and ends with more guitar duelling and harmonizing. The final and title track "The Agony of Rebirth" even throws in a little bit of a black metal feel about halfway through the song for a little bit before going into probably one of the catchiest parts of the entire album.
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jimmy J. Medina at Evilesq/Jimmy J Music Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2017. It was produced by Impaled Offering and Jimmy J Medina. Cover art was done by Shi Jie Zhang at Confessional Studio and CD layout was done by Ken Padilla. Production of the album was done well here. All instruments and vocals can be heard well without one thing overpowering another. Musicianship was great, again mixing their game up between face blasting, fast paced bludgeoning to midpaced catchy, groove riddled brutality while showing their technical skills without tech being the driving force. Little bits of some nice solowork on guitars are found throughout the album along with a few really cool bass runs and fills here and there. I'm definitely going to have to check out their earlier album and really looking forward to what the future holds for Impaled Offering.
