When you talk to the average person in the world and mention Colombia, one of the first things to cross their mind is going to probably be that that's where some of the best coffee in the world comes from. Talk to an extreme metalhead about Colombia and they might tend to think of brutal death metal. Now you can add the recently formed Decarabion to the list of brutal Colombian death metal bands. Hailing from Bogota, the band consists of members from many other Colombian bands and includes vocalist Sebastian Guarin, guitarist Daniel Lara, bassist Oscar Callejas and drummer Sander Bermudez and formed in 2018. In 2019 they released a one song demo entitled "Schizoid Proliferation of Insanity" and signed with Unmatched Brutality Records. At the end of the year they went in to Soundtech Studios to start the recording process for their official debut full length release "Bastard Son of Divinity" and wrapped the sessions up early 2020 and released August 4th, 2020. Daniel Lara is credited as recording the bass on the album as original bassist Mario Franco was no longer with the band and Oscar joined either during or shortly after the recording process. If you ever need a shot of adrenaline don't even think about picking up a needle, popping cafeene pills or drinking 5 gallons of coffee at once. Put some headphones around your ears, throw on Decarabion's newly released "Bastard Son of Divinity" and hit play. That's all you'll need. Eight songs of pure adrenaline rush and brutality with little room to rest. Once in a while Sander will slow the tempo on the drums a bit while the guitar and bass keep going as normal just to change the feel a little bit but even that is shortlived until Sander starts assaulting his snare head with blasts. Track three "Schizoid Proliferation" has a couple spots where the midpaced catchy tempo is a little more lengthy. Speaking of Sander, dude's just a beast behind the kit. Endurance through the roof to be able to pull off as much constan blasting and double pedal speed attack on the kick drums. Daniel kills on the guitar and bass also. Frantic and somewhat technical without being too technical. Some riffs have an old school feel but layed out in a way that they're brutal as hell. Others, well just buckle your seatbelt and enjoy the ride! Sebastian's vocals are filthy guttural. Just disgustingly low, enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention. On "Bastard Son of Divinity" you won't find any breakdowns or slams, though as said earlier they do slow to a midpaced tempo once in a while and that is only for a few short seconds. It's just face grinding adrenaline throughout. The album also includes some guest appearances. The opening track "Cult of Void and Chaos" includes special guest Robbert Kok (Disavowed vocalist). Track two "Unleashing Molecular War" features Larry Wang (Maggot Colony bassist). Track four "Contemplations of Death and Decay" features Fabio Marin (Internal Suffering vocalist). Last but certainly not least, track six "Eschaton Immanentized" features Jamie Bailey (Brodequin bassist-vocalist/Unmatched Brutality Records). All of the music and lyrics were written by Decarabion except for the lyrics for "Eschaton Immanentized" which was written by Alejandro Gonzalez. The album was recorded at Soundtech Studios in Bogota, Colombia, mixed and mastered at Studio Audio Visuals by Robbert Kok, awesome cover art was done by Adi Dechristianize, band logo was done by Brian Gonzalez and the layout concept was done by Rich Montenegro at Richinsane Designs. The production on this debut slab of brutality was done very well. Everything is heard, cymbals I do wish might've been a little lounder in the mix but everything else was top notch. Nice thick and beefy bass tone and beefy guitar tone along with ultra sick gutturals and a nice poppy snare tone without being too poppy and disgusting pedal work. I'm going to enjoy this album for a while and will definitely keep my eyes and ears on them to see what the future holds.
